Two years ago, I have talked with Manila's Pier traders who told me unlike the Davao warehouses, their suppliers are mostly Filipinos in Japan, some don't have hifi electronics background -- kaya ang dumadating dyan mas marami nga pero konti lang yung magandang klase.
I was told the traders in Davao have Japanese partners (some live here with Japayuki partners) who have an inside track in Tokyo's and Osaka's recycling centers, kaya nakukuha yung magaganda, kasama na yung high-end.
And they sell those surplus items at prices higher than new production made-in-China hifi.

Welcome to the forum sir Dana, looks like you also have nice vintage gears.
I've seen those Marantz models in various posts. Can you post pictures sir and some comments and experiences on the Marantz? I have no experience whatsoever with Marantz.
And you are right... Sandawa is THE MAN!!!
Sir Sandawa, ganun din sa PIER I've seen the prices going up fairly fast and the good models are becoming quite rare. Arrivals seem to be less frequent than previous years. Also, I've been told by store owners that they have orders for the good models from rich Chinese audio hunters. The store keepers have those list of telephone numbers of buyers just waiting for the units like Sansui AUD907, the top of the line Yamaha speakers. and the SONY CDP ES series. The LUXMAN units you see once in the pier are the damaged ones that are being repaired by the sellers. These are passed on by the buyers.
Hehe. ;D i sometimes i wish that these rich guys will stick to the High End Audio that they can afford (i.e. Mcintosh, Linn, Magnepan, etc.) Sana, they leave these discarded Japanese gear to us poor guys.
;D

Thank you Sir Lordfoo. Ill try to post some of the the pix next tym, kkunan ko muna and some of my small vintage, 'bakal bakal' na gears. In the meantime, para naman may maicontribute sa thread na ito. Im posting my vintage Magnavox phono console player. Forgot the model name.It is tube-based, with tubes:50EH5 x 2pcs & 7025 x 1 pc. The grille cover is made of rattan weave with 8 inches full range alnico magnet speaker. The three controls in the lower front portion are for power/volume combination, tone & balance control. The cabinet is made of solid wood, parang Lauan yata.Got this from some small thrift shop nearby. It is working but havent powered them lately though.Parang fine piece of furniture rin sa corner ng sala area. Sori, medyo madilim yata...will do it nicely next tym ;D Thanks ...

Hey Dana, andito ka na din pala. ;D Let me tell you, everything I know now about vintage/surplus amps I learned in this thread and also in the similar thread in the other forum. The wealth of information that Sandawa provided proved invaluable in my search for vintage amps. It was also a matter of timing, because I had just started getting interested in old audio equipment when I stumbled onto this thread. That's why I barely hesitated when the Sansui AU-D907X Decade went up for sale. The selling price was a bit steep but I figured, what the hell, how much time would I have to spend scouring various sources of surplus amps before I find another one? For me time is even more valuable than money nowadays. ;D But you have quite a collection yourself brod ;D What I saw when I was at your place really impressed me An added bonus is your wife's cooking ;D Quality food to go with quality gears...ano pa hahanapin nyo ;D ;D (Sorry medyo OT)

Sir Foo - thank you sir. I know you are another formidable collector, based on what I've read from your posts. Master Sandawa - I'm sure the group will be very happy to meet you. Personally speaking, matagal ko na kayo gusto makilala. Sayang wala pang ganitong forums when I used to visit Davao three to four times a year. This was way back '96 to '99. Looking forward to meeting you sir... and the durian ;D

I think this is the same Commonwealth group that includes Sir Obet. Hindi naman Diliman commune (1972?), hindi ko na inabutan yun -- high school pa lang ako at that time. Pero, I wish I were part of it!

Hi Sirs Foo,Sandawa & Mandrake... Basically, what you call the Diliman group are basically the Commonwealth Audiofools. Yes, mostly magbobote at magbabakal ang members...veterans of thrift shops in metro manila ;D. We had two EBs in the past so far and again Mike ( a long time LP collector/hoarder/piranha all rolled into one) is suggesting an EB again come this Sept 2 (thread is in pinoydvd offline, sa kapitbahay, hindi yata available today?).. The guys basically has this love for different kinds of music but mostly music of the yesteryears, even had fun or theme na yata of listenin to Boy Mondragons, Rain. Its fun having this EB because you get to know who are in this passion/hobby and get to know some new infos or what, etc. Sir Mandrake, thanks for the nice words ;D..bilib nga ako sa inyo e...very knowledgeable sa mga music genre...ako, di ko masyado alam mga titles e, pero i guess i have clean ears, basta musical sya, aprub sa kin kahit Bigbands, jazz, vocals or whathamacallit pa..playing good music na ba ung turntable nyo?yes, sir, re my hobby, buti na lang my WAF at support, so far ;D Sirs Sandawa and Foo, the group is looking forward to meet u in one of those gathering. Just tell us, kelan kayo libre, ggawa kami ng EB session ;D ;D ;D. Sirs Sandawa, grp is surely looking forward to the gears you will bring and possibly sell...Nga pala sir, meron na bang website ung personal collection nyo?wuld be nice to ogle at and appreciate them ... BTW, just got my sister in law a Vintage Pioneer SA-6500II?...Ayaw daw kasi nya ng maraming pinipindot e Very nice sya. Big heavy tuning knob, sparkling aluminum faced...will try to post pics...

Postponed muna yung plano kong website, meron namang PinoyAudio na very friendly and accommodating. I hope the group behind this introduces a donation scheme para maka-share naman sa maintenance cost ng website. Sa Audio Karma, no way for Pinoys to send fund contribution since Paypal is not RP-friendly . But i've been sending small parts such as knobs to some AK'ers (you'd be surprised, nakakarating in 3 weeks at regular airmail from Davao to US mainland) and instead of paying me directly, they send donation to AK thru Paypal in my name. Okay yang Rain ni Boy Mondragon . I found out a year ago that a George Canseco CD I bought contains Rain. Ang galing ni Boy kumanta ng Ingles, sa tigas ng dila puwedeng mag-araro -- 'yan ang gustong gusto ng mga tambay sa gabi dyan sa Quezon Ave ;D.

Yup, kami nga ang mga Audiofools sa Commonwealth ;D Although welcome lahat kahit hindi sa vicinity ng Commonwealth nakatira (like Oweidah and Dana) as long as, like Dana said in the neighboring forum, you have good intentions ;D. Ang talagang magaganda ang collections na nakita ko na ay ung kina Ichiedelarosa (the Mike that Dana is referring to), at Dana. I think Zetroce must have some too. Rascal has mentioned his vintage Sansui amps and I'm sure Oweidah must have quite a collection too... ewan ko lang kung may nakatago pa ;D
Hope that Lordfoo and Sandawa can join us kahit minsan. Not only for the wealth of information they have... it's always nice to get to know the person behind the handles ;D

Posting a couple of importer's warehouse acquisitions over the weekend at P750 each: 1.) Victor XL-Z321 CDP - mid-scale CD player but in good working condition. Not very heavy but fast and accurate reader and has two sets of analog outputs -- fixed and variable. The unit's condition is better than what is shown in photo. 2.) Hitachi HT-W9 turntable - this is a front loader, which works perfectly like a laser disc player. You just push a button and the drawer pops out like a CDP, push another button to close and play and has track selector. What it does is to read the track breaks on the record when you turn the power on, memorizes the location of song intervals, then you can access individual tracks through buttons from 1 to 10. It uses a specialized Audio Technica stylus but with available replacement online. It sounds good even at loud volume, no trace of rumble, or W&F. Good tracker too. I first thought it was a cheapo but changed my mind when I looked closer. It's comparatively heavy at about 6 kgs., and comparable to Pioneer PL-88F: k-nisi.hp.infoseek.co.jp/pl-88f.htm

I've been inspired by Don's posts on "Members Gallery", so I decided to take some photos of my gear this morning. Most of these I already posted individually but I decided should take their photos again as part of a system. These are basically the active ones, which comprise about half of what I got. In our living room: 1. The first photo is my premier system comprising of Sansui Alpha-907 iMos Limited and Alpha 907 driving a pair of JBL 4430 (at its top is a Korean Inkel (Sherwood) professional speaker. Hardly visible on top of the rack is Technics SL-7 turntable. The rack also includes an inactive Luxman L-530. On the floor is my newly bought Victor XL-Z321 under testing. 2. Photo shows by 2nd system, anchored on Sansui AU-XII and a pair of EV Interface A (not shown since they were elevated on the wall at ear level). The equipment at the bottom is a lser disc player. This set drives my AV system, on top of the rack (not shown) 3. Next photo is my 3rd system, Sansui AU-D907F, with a Yamaha NS-650 and a pair of professional Inkel speakers. This is also hooked to my AV system. 4. This is one my earliest racks where my 2nd and 3rd Sansui systems are located. On top of this is my family TV. In my room: 1. Photo 1 is left of my bed (I inherited an old custombuilt square 2mX2m narra bed while my wife in another room has the new king-size foam-and-spring bed) with Marantz PM-5 and Luxman L-80. You'll probably identify some speakers in photo, including Mordaunt Short 3.40, KEF 101/s2, and JBL 316 Pro. The Marantz amplifies my DVD player. I have to place the TV on left flank since there's a window on that side. 2. Second photo is the left front side of my bed showing two pairs of Yamaha NS-10Ms, big Diatone, Aurex and Denon on the floor, A Technics RX50 and smaller ones on top including a DA Point Source 10, Wharf Diamond 4 and a KLH. 3. Next is my center front with a Luxman 5c50 preamp and an Accuphase E-302, a pair of Denon POA-1001 and PRA-2000, a Luxman 505V and an Arcam Alpha 6. On top left is a Technics SL-M1, a manual home version of the SL-1200. 4. This is the corner photo on my right front side, sets of speakers similar to the ones on the left and speakers that serve my gear on my right including two Diatones, an Epos 14, Sony APM-33W and a Sansui SP-K3000. A hidden pair is big ESS Performance 12. 5. The 5th photo includes several amps: Onkyo P306/Yamaha B-3 combination; Pioneer SA-8800; Yamaha C-4/B4 combination; and a Yamaha CA-1000III. The power amps are not visible since they were closer to the floor. The turntable is a red CEC with a TEAC deck on top that I intend to bring to the repairman this afternoon. You may be wondering where are my Sansui AU-70 and Tono tube gear? They're inactive, since I'm not too fond of the tube sound. I would bring them out once I miss the tube sound. There are other active systems mounted in my wife's room and my son's and daughter's respective rooms. The unhooked amps, CDPs and turntables are all stored under my bed. The big speakers that are unused are in my storage room.
