any cheap (low-end models) of Shure and Audio Technica. palaging mas mataba tumunog ang Shure, for rock and pop, while AT is for jazz and classical. generally better than installed Jap cartridges on Technics, Denon, Pioneer, Sony, Yamaha TTs. (hindi kasama Micro Seiki).
also, Shure and AT have Taiwan or Japan replacement (not original) styluses available in Raon at only P300 each. if you can find the original, you could haggle for as low as P600 each for Shure 44, 55, 75, 95, etc. and for AT 10, 11, 12 or p-mounts 102, 112, 122, etc.

audio-technica AT-OC9 is less than 6k at Audio Studio (sic) in megamall.... i've read many good reviews about it but haven't tried it since it's an MC cartridge (i only have an MM phonostage).
i have a Shure M44G, M55 and Whitelabel.... the M44G is more laid back than the M44-7.... on the other hand you could say that the M44-7 is more lively than the M44G.... they seem to differ only in the needle used as i can interchange the "G" and "7" needles resulting in different sound.... which is better depends on your setup; in my case the "G" was a little too laid back so i prefer using the "7".
the Whitelabel sounds like a middle ground between the M44-7 and M44G, treble is more laid back than the M44-7 but livelier than M44G.... it also has a slightly thicker midbass.
i use the M55 more often than the other 2, it has slightly less bass but has more "bite" in the mids & treble, so it sounds more detailed... unfortunately it's already out of production.
(update) sorry for the wrong info, it's Audio Studio not "Audio Space".... i must have confused the amp brand with the store's name.
M55 cart is great w/ instrumentals but doesn't seem to track very well with vocals, sometimes the sibilance goes way out of control..... increasing the tracking force from 0.8g to 2g significantly reduced the distortion but not completely..... on the other hand the whitelabel didn't exibit the same distortion.... hmmmmm maybe i really need to buy that protractor.

how about audio-technica AT-440ML, anybody knows where to buy? Audiophile carries the OC9 w/c is an MC cart, been looking for this MM cart (440ML) since reading excellent reviews of both carts.... saw this user review claiming the 440ML tracks the inner grooves very well, i.e. very low inner groove distortion.

ang mahal na pala ngayon ng phono cartridge! nung araw yang Grado was even cheaper than the Japanese brands. meron ngang shop dyan sa ilalim ng Araneta Coliseum nuon (late '80s) nanalo sa Customs bidding, isang kahon ng Grado ang nakuha niya, binebenta ng P200 each! hindi pa rin ako bumili kasi ang uso nuon na non-Asian, non-US brand yung Ortofon (Denmark) na maliliit for the slender and straight tonearms. ang bibigat ng old Grado cartridges.
tapos yung upscale cartridge naman ng Shure, Pickering, and other US brands, plus Japan's AT ang dami sa Dau, P1.5K brand new from the military commissary, P500 for replacement stylus. ang used cartridge, P500 lang including good condition stylus.
kung may contact kayo sa west cost, specifically San Francisco, marami pa duon. you can buy used Shure V15 from type 3 to type 5, from $20 to $100. Ortofon and AT models are cheaper. replacement stylus, NOS, ranged from $10 to $50 for mid to upscale models. unless you prefer only British brands.
