got lucky today after a visit to a surplus warehouse here in Davao this morning. snatched a Luxman L-530 (http://www.audioinnovationen.de/html/luxman_l-530.html), 120wpc at 310 watts power consumption, early '80s vintage, at P3K. the warehouse assistant originally gave me a P4K quote for the unit but the supervisor after talking to me in straight Tagalog gave it to me at P3K.

Sansui gear owners, hold on to your units. The guys at AudioKarma (Exclusively Sansui) are getting crazy monitoring rising prices of Sansuis on eBay. Even low-powered amps get bids of over $500. Some think there maybe rigging but I felt this has something to do with demand-and-supply as I previously mentioned in the other forum.
Also, if you see surplus Sansui Alpha series amps and you're thinking of re-sale value, buy them provided the price is reasonable. The bottom model of the series, Alpha 607 (90wpc), is currently selling at roughly $700 on eBay. That's about 5 times the normal closing bids for amps with similar power rating. Hoping the pier traders don't read this!

Sir, Sansui used to have a service center in Greenhills for many years but that closed down in early '90s when the original company in Japan slowed down production eventually shutting down. Some of Sansui-trained technicians joined service shops in Banawe/Del Monte as well as in Raon during that time. I'm sure many of them are still active. I haven't checked this for at least a decade since I relocated to Davao in 1996.
For those who have electronics background, Sansuis could be repaired by just consulting websites with members that provide free advices as well as service manuals (other hifi brands don't have that many believers). Audio Karma's 'Exclusively Sansui', Dave Compton's 'Classic Sansui' on Yahoo, as well as Isao's 'Best of Sansui' site have technician- members who would be ready to provide repair tips for free. all you have to do is post a question.

i've been thinking, maybe Sansui owners here should register their units - model and serial number - at Classic Sansui (Dave Compton) or Audio Karma's Exclusively Sansui (Paul Morden).
this would be beneficial for those who might want to trade their units later when eBay Phils system and transport channels become efficient. surely, listing on those registers would boost re-sale value of your units. AU-907 series amps could fetch at least $500 each at eBay US nowadays. at the rate Sansui prices are shooting up, it could go as high as $1,000 in the next few weeks since these are sought-after units in the US regardless of the fixed 100V power supply. take note that buyers usually shoulder freight cost, thus, your proceeds in an auction would be winning bid price less eBay's fees.
Classic Sansui and Audio Karma's addresses could be found on the first post of this thread.

audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?this is the most active hifi forum on the web, from tubes to vintage SS, all brands. look for "Exclusively Sansui" and Morden's database thread.

thanks for the info. i actually had a problem with audiokarma last year. then, i registered with this screen name early this year, but still suffered from some glitch, until this was corrected only last month.
just to clarify that mention of foreign hifi forums above should not be taken as plain endorsement of those sites. rather, they should be treated as only supplemental web resources specifically for Sansui users. in the first place, many of the posts there hardly apply to us. but we can use some info as indicators and could be useful once global eBay trade becomes truly borderless and efficient.
on the other hand, data shared here in PinoyAudio are more useful. members easily relate to experiences posted. opportunities in surplus Sansui at the pier, or in Davao, are open and accessible to most members of this forum. Davao is far, but there's always a chance that Manila-based enthusiasts would travel there officially, or on leisure, and surplus warehouses are an option for a visit. the bottom line is that PinoyAudio should always be our home forum.
now, if only discexchange2003 - with ihatejazz and bedroom eyes - would move here my favorite thread on the other hifi forum... (patawad, nagbibiro lang po!)

ang ganda niyan sir, 50wpc class A, former top of the line ng L500 series, 250,000 yen: www.niji.or.jp/home/k-nisi/l-550.htmmeron akong L-530 mas mababa diyan, 15wpc class A, 120wpc class AB. if the technician would be able to repair my L-570, that could be a threat to my reference amp: Sansui Alpha 907. Luxman L-570, also 50wpc Class A and still selling at roughly $3K at eBay, replaced the L-550. www.audioinnovationen.de/html/luxman_l-570.htmlif he got the L-550 below P20K, it's still a bargain, even at Davao surplus pricing. that's a high-end machine.

giveaway price yan sir, assuming it doesn't have a problem. oldtimer hifi enthusiasts could only dream of that model 20 years ago. if i were the owner, i would quote it at over P20K. if it were sold here brand new in early '80s, that would have a price tag of at least P50K (exchange rate of 200 yen = $1 = P25). that's equivalent to over P100K now.
