i'm currently playing old Emerson Lake and Palmer recordings at live concert levels (CCP Little Theatre volume) -- From the Beginnings, Lucky Man, Peter Gunn Theme, the group's version of Mossurgsky's The Hut of Baba Yaga (Pictures at an Exhibition), Greg Lake's acoustic version of Pachelbel's Canon, and a few Keith Emerson's moog synthesizer pieces. i intend to play next Django Reinhardt, Coleman Hawkins, Jimmy Durante and a couple of Lorin Maazel and Itzak Perlman. bukas ng umaga si Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Bad Company, Van Halen and Tom Petty.
the sound improvement at normal volume is not that dramatic compared with my good speakers but the clarity in vocals and high frequency as well as depth of bass at high volume is remarkable. one square foot of folded horn and a 15-inch woofer are all it takes for me truly listen and feel my kind of music.

i'm currently playing old Emerson Lake and Palmer recordings at live concert levels (CCP Little Theatre volume) -- Aside from David Bowie, ELP is one of my all-time favorites. From high school till now, they are still spinning in my player. Your speakers are giving this genre justice. Happy listening. Louie

congrats on your new toy sir. finally got the speakers you were lusting about the past 2 mos. good thing you don't have neighbors at night otherwise precinto ka "disturbing the peace". will drop by your place one of these days to listen to it. if only those things are not heavy we can bring it to my place in eden and really crank it up so we can experience what this is made up of. Ipagyabang mo sa karma .

kaya ang concert-level volume dito sa apartment ko sir, basta 7a.m. to 12nn and 4p.m. to 9p.m. lang. 60 sqm of enclosed space with 3.5m-high ceiling. kaya para ka na ring nasa loob ng maliit na auditorium. gusto mo dumaan ka mamaya, text ka lang baka nasa labas ako. balak ko yayain dito one of these days si Popong Landero para makinig siya nung world music collection ko.
pag naayos ko yung kuwarto ko sa taas, papakita ko sa 'yo: wall-to-wall ang electronics, 10 active systems with roughly 100 audio components including speakers. ;D

Jen,
siyempre, basta nandito ako, kahit anong oras. iba kasi ang sistema namin dito ni Diego, very casual, pag dadaan siya bago umuwi, text lang kung nandito ako. walang scheduled listening parties, very informal, parang magka-kapitbahay lang na nag-u-ungguyan!
usually, office hours nasa bahay ako. after office, nasa labas pag may laman ang bulsa, tulad ngayon ;D ('di ko pa binabayaran yung may-ari nitong 4430 -- hi-hi!)

made some inquiries in Manila early today and got an interesting response thru text. one recording studio brought in a pair of 4430 from Cali in late '90s. its total bills including customs duties and freight charges? over P500K!

tagal na kitang niyayaya dito. punta ka sa Kadayawan. actually, hindi Sandawa Museum ito. Sandawa's house of junks is more appropriate.

Accurate yung discription na "loud and clear". I'm using AU-X11 (160wpc) but will try to bi-amp with Alpha 907 later. I've read a lot of reviews about this, some audiophiles even tried using tubes to drive it but were unsuccessful. The common complaint is it would take at least 200 clean watts to harness the potential of its woofer. But LF response is okay for me now, not too loud but the depth (as in tiny vibrations that massage your body) is felt.
Basta nasa working hours lang ang "live concerts", I think I'll remain a free man!

My schedule was so hectic this past week I never had the time to test and post my newest acquisitions. Finally, I took some pictures today and had listened to my latest toys for about four hours. Good enough to collect for my "House of Hifi Junks." 1.) Sony APM-33W - originally sold in the US market for $800/pair in mid '80s but current re-sale value is less then $100. The reason for the huge drop in pricing is because there's no replacement foam surround available even from Sony. Thus, if you buy a pair with rotten cone edges and there's no one resourceful enough to fabricate a substitute, your speakers are dumpsite bound. Anyway, I got a guy who tried to restore it. While the replacement does not look authentic, the performance of the woofer is outstanding. The walnut box is also pretty. It originally sold at over 100,000 yen per pair, or roughly $500 in mid '80s. The sound qualifies it as way over entry or mid-level models of other brands. Excellent for a "Japanese crap". 2.) Denon POA-1001 - used to be the TOTL power amp in mid '70s replacing POA-1000B, which cost 350,000 yen. The 1000B, a tube power amp, was the first upscale amp by Denon/Columbia. In effect, POA-1001 is first solid state TOTL for Denon. The 1001 amp is rated 100wpc, I'd describe as conservative considering it has 88,000uF of power storage capability (total capacitor rating). Such figures could support an amp rated at 200wpc. The 1001 is twin- mono with separate housing per channel and is still selling at 50,000 yen at Hifi Do, a major used hifi retailer in Japan. Original price is 178,000 yen. In Yahoo Jap auction, it still commands over 20,000 yen average sale price.
