you should have texted me. yes, wala nang stocks ang Arjoel, pero there are about a hundred gear inside - sa dulo ng warehouse - unless the assistant brought you there already. the better source among the warehouses now is JLLP Bavco (Granland warehouses) about 2 kms away from Arjoel (approaching Alsons). the traders' shops with surplus hifi stocks are on Carpenter St. and a sidestreet near Magsaysay Park. sayang, you should have informed me of your plans. i live just a block away from Marco Polo and i have a 60% room discount there. sayang nga sir eh. BTW sir, is Yamaha A-8 a good buy? I haven't tested though...

dennispm,
i had bought a Yamaha A-8 a long time ago but can't remember its specs. it was okay but not really an upscale model. i think it's better to find the older CA-1000 model, which is a collectors' item in AK. if you're going to CDO, the only worthwhile place to visit is American Surplus, at the Xavier U gym, Divisoria. stocks are used US audio brands from US thrift shops, such as Goodwill, i guess. the owner's name is Paul Paladio.
foo,
the warehouse price for amps here in Davao is generally P10/watt for silver amps and P12/watt for black amps, using power consumption at the back as basis. warehouse units are as-is, it's okay if you're adventurous but could be a bit risky since units may need repair. stocks generally arrive Tuesday and Friday. for the traders, with shops selling A-okay units, the amp price ranges from P18 to P20 per watt.

I'm not sure if I can be back at that time. My next trip might be in CDO this month and Cebu at a later date. For sure I'll come back to davao for leisure. Save ko na number ni sir sandawa. ;D

I was kinda waiting for the TOTL A-9. So you think a CA1000 is a better choice than the A-9? Isn't there a CA2000 or something? Does the 10 Php per watt pricing refer to power consumption wattage or RMS? Sir pag may nakita kang Victor SX3 at low price jan sa area ninyo, audition mo. I got one for 2 thou here in manila. I listened to it for several hours last night and it was a pretty good speaker for the price. It might be the new CDP player though.

the CA-1000 seems to be more preferred by AK members, probably due to price, higher models are much more expensive. the price quotes are based on power consumption. 2K for SX-3 is a steal, i'll probably buy the one i saw here if that's the price.

here's a new tip for those visiting Davao. i just found out today, there were "old stocks" of replacement styli that Gaisano Mall of Davao is disposing at a uniform price of P99.95 (the cheapest you'll find on the web for Taiwan-made replacements is $7, i understand). i got a Shure M44-7 today at that price. while the packaging shows a box similar to those sold in Raon, this is different from the original Nagaoka box i got from Cagayan de Oro. it looks new, foam is still firm, while the foam in the CDO box disintegrates once you touched it. although it shows Made in Japan, i think it was Made in Taiwan. there's no more Shure stylus available as far as i know but still about two dozens of Pioneer, Kenwood, Akai, Yamaha and Panasonic replacements - all at P99.95 each. here's a picture of what i got today:

Just to update on Davao's surplus hifi outlets (see first post):
1.) Arjoel has moved at the corner of R. Castillo and Carpenter St. just below the Agdao flyover; 2. JLLP is closing its warehouse and moving to Buhangin district nearer the airport, along Mamay Road; and, 3.) Remde Enterprises is back in business on a new location - Jacinto St. before the Ateneo de Davao Jacinto gate.
By and large, there are no more good hifi gear from the warehouses, but traders' shops still have available equipment but at prices comparable to those in Metro Manila.

it's actually bad news here. no more surplus hifi coming in to the warehouses. only TVs, bikes, golf carts, a lot of DVD players (P1.5K each but choosy with pirate discs) and, refs. what the shops/traders are selling are old stereo stocks that never moved in years. got 5 junk CDPs and 1 plastic linear-tracking turntable from JLLP yesterday, but only four are working, so far. one can be fixed, another is a hopeless case. got them at P100 each, hindi na lugi.
JLLP is closing this weekend and if it's still open today, i'll buy some more, including mini- and midi-component sets, which could be priced below P1K each. i don't think i'll be selling any of my gear nowadays, pinapakyaw na raw ng China at Vietnam lahat ng surplus hifi na lumalabas ng Japan.

sandawa, saw a shop selling original used CD's for P50.00 and some pre recorded cassettes. US surplus store beside AMESCO sta ana that shop was closed the past two days. but i just got 4 gems at P40 each today, including the original version of Mannheim Steamroller's Fresh Aire (American Gramophone). i have two Steamroller CDs bought at P600 each in mid-80s when ordinary imported CDs were selling at P275 each. btw, got lucky today with a pair of Technics SB-RX50, honeycomb co-axial speakers (ala Tannoy and KEF's uni-Q). will pick it up after work. it sounds okay.

yes, it is. but it does not have fixed business-hour schedule, tapos medyo ubos na yung magagandang CDs. konti lang and stocks compared with Cagayan de Oro's American Surplus, which has a lot of US hifi goodies from receivers to speakers at low prices. i'm planning to go to Cagayan this coming weekend, if you're now based in Davao and you have nothing do this weekend, baka interesado ka - 8 hours trip by bus one way, i usually leave 4 a.m. to reach Cagayan by 12 noon.
