CELESTION SL12Si
A thread in WS describe the brand as: - warm, wide and layered - a little bit on the dark side - “sound” not for all, old school
And from our Audiophile Terms (courtesy of sir jack), picked up the following definitions: dark - A warm, mellow, excessively rich quality in reproduced sound. The audible effect of a frequency response which is clockwise-tilted across the entire range, so that output diminishes with increasing frequency. Compare "light." warm - The same as dark, but less tilted. A certain amount of warmth is a normal part of musical sound. layering - The reproduction of depth and receding distance, which audibly places the rows of performers one behind the other.
I’m no audiophile and don’t pretend to be one. I just like listening to good music. To be honest, I can’t seem to understand “audible effect of a frequency response which is clockwise-tilted across the entire range, so that output diminishes with increasing frequency”. It’s Russian to me. But if that’s the way to describe the sound, then I like it. My query, if all the terms above describe Celestion speakers, which speaker brands, if any (locally represented if possible) are its opposite? I’m only assuming, if I can listen to these other brands, maybe this is one way to appreciate or understand the Celestion “sound”. May I have some of your views?
Thank you for looking. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. May God bless us always.

Not all Celestions have that "old skool" "Celestion House Sound". IMHO, the SL6 / SL12 / SL600 / SL700 sound a bit similar -> Dark. The cheaper "Odd Number" series i.e.; 1, 3, 5, 7, etc. sound different. In addition, these have higher sensitivities. I believe Celestion created this series to capture the more traditional market, which do not particularly like the "DARK" character, and the low sensitivities of the earlier, and more expensive models. The newer models i.e. the 100, and the 300, are again different in sound character. Celestion nowadays are not that well known anymore in the hi-end arena. They are now more concentrated in PRO audio, and some home theater applications. Such a pity really. During the 80s up the mid 90s, Celestions were up there in hi-end heaven. It was the 6 series, and yes that "DARK" character which put them on the map. I like the old skool Celestion sound. I personally use a pair of Celestion SL600Si.
