Any comments on the TOTL Sansui QRX9001? I heard that there are problems in using the unit in stereo mode? Is this a good unit for acquitision?

I took home the Sansui Quad QRX9001 with me a few hours ago. Holy Smoke!!! Am I glad I took the advice to get the Unit.
The QUAD’s rear is much more complicated than the standard stereo amps I am used to. It reminded me of my YAMAHA hometheater receiver. I connected a pair of AR90s to the front A channel and a pair of AR18s to the rear A channel. Plugged in my Sony CDP337ESG and inserted my favourite testing CD.
The front panel lighted up like a Christmas Tree when I turned it on. (Six meters!) I’ve been using a Pioneer SX1080 for a while and the QRX9001 matches it in all department (except maybe the power since I don’t intend to use the 120 watt bridged mode of the Sansui which is the standard ouput of the SX1080). But the power difference is not obvious to me. The Bass is awesome, the mids and highs are awesome. And they come from four directions!!! This is my first time to listen to a QUAD amp and it is indeed Grooveee!
The Eagles live Hotel California made me feel like I was right inside the concert hall. Norah Jones’ come away with me becomes very intimate coming from the four corners of our living room.
And the Cranberries' ZOMBIE became a wall of sound assaulting my ears.
One negative side... Although everything seems to be running okay... the phono sounded mute and very flat to me. I have to have this checked.

you should hear it play quad recordings. four channels naghihiwalay ang sound, umiikot kung minsan. anyway, the technology before that was the Hafler matrix - which is based on sound processing as in Pro Logic, etc., not really separate channels during recording.

Hi Sandawa,
Happy New Year. Yes. I just discovered Quad LPs. I found three in my collections and tested them. They didnt sound good at first. Yesterday, I found an AK post by QuadBob mentioning the SO mode. I checked the 3 LPs and saw the "SO encode" tag. When I pushed the SO button, beautiful music played.
Johnny Mathis - Song Sung Blue Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water Carpenters - The Singles.
Nice!!! Very Nice!!!
By the way... are you familiar with the Kenwood SR9940? Is this a good Quad unit? Will it match up with the QRX9001?

the Quad albums would sound best using quad cartridges (daming demand, ano?) my older brother used to have an extra unit before for his Toshiba quad console but i don't know where it is now. last year, i saw one old quadraphonic cartridge sold in a shop in Zamboanga but i did not buy it since i don't know the quality of the stylus.
i've heard you were in Lucena last weekend, so i didn't call you up. i'm now back here in Davao. was so busy, didn't find the time to meet some our friends there.

I guess I should be on the lookout for QUAD cartridges. Still, even with a regular cartridge, the 9001 phono section ROCKS. I've listened to SQ albums and the surround function really works well. However, I found a CD-4 type of QUAD disk and somehow the CD-4 option of the 9001 did not sound good. And yes. I was in Lucena for the new year celebrations. Sayang, we were not able to catch each other. Maybe next time.
