For an entry-level budget bookshelf set-up which of the two will you recommend and prefer in terms of reliability and quality??? Our local Dai-ichi speakers or those China-made Wharfedales??? Both of which have good reviews from budget-conscious audio purists. Can you recommend other brands below 7-10k that can really hold its own or even out do those mentioned??? Brand-new of course and available here locally??? Any suggestions??? Comments??? Thanks!!! God bless!!!

I'll go for the Wharfedale even though China made these models are design UK and in case you plan to sell if well madali, performance/sound maganda and versatile from jazz, rock and new wave music pwede balance. tapos if you got the proper matching of your gears magulat ka sa result.

naturalhigh,
Tama si Sir Hans. Maganda performance wharfedale. I am also a newbie and I auditioned 4-5 bookshelf speakers before I decided to buy one and u guessed it...it's a Wharfedale. Pero mas maganda kung mapakinggan mo sya kasama nung nabili mong amp para masabi mo kung nag match yung dalawa. I hope nakatulong ako!!!!!

One of my favorite bookshelf speakers that I had were those original Wharfedale Diamonds (yung first version na maliit). It also had an Amplified version so you can directly hook the pre-outs of your pre-amp into it. Hard to find now, but a real prized catch if you do find a pair.

i still have the small Diamond 4, which is really good for its size and had the bigger and heavier Diamond Ritz in early '90s (amplified @ 20wpc - which limits its performance, used for portable CD player). the entry models i had that also impressed me back then were Mordaunt Short's MS-10 (mas maliit pa sa Diamond) bought from Abenson in mid '80s at P4K and a Goodmans Maxim II (brought home from UK along with a B&W DM100i) in late '80s. the MS-10 and Maxim II were so small and too unassuming, i would use them to demo my MF-A1, Cyrus and Quad 33/303 amps. my officemates and cousins would always be lost where the sweet sound was coming from. my favorite demo piece back then was Suzanne Vega's a capella Tom's Diner. those were the good old days... when i was earning only a couple of Gs per month and i could buy a P12K-worth MF-A1 - thanks to my late mom and for the sponsoring agencies that gave me foreign currency allowance i was able to save. here's how the old Diamond 4 looks like:
