Guys, I think it would be of big help if we can some how encourage our fellow member to post any problems encountered with their audio equipment. Atleast, many can share their thoughts or solutions for such.

what could be the reason for an amplifier's relay to mute the amp's output? can the power-on delay be used also as a safety relay?
my friend asked me to see what's wrong with my surplus sansui amp that he's currently using..... he said after about 3-4 songs the amp will mute itself and the power LED will blink similar to the way it delays during power up.
but after taking it home i haven't been able to replicate the problem..... i drove the amp hard for 3 hours and the relay wouldn't trip..... although i've experienced it once before, i couldn't make it happen again, but my friend says it happens to him everytime.
could it be because he's biwiring 6 ohm speakers? he connected the speaker A and B terminals to the speaker's Hi and Lo freq terminals.

had a chat with a friend here in Davao last weekend who's got a similar problem. he bought a 200-wpc Yamaha power amp that tested okay in the shop but would shut off (relay-triggered) after a few minutes of use at home. it's hooked to a 500-watt transformer and he suspects overload could be the cause. ( i think he'll be able to read this when he gets back from Manila, so he might be able to post what happened next.)
i had that same problem a long time ago in QC until i realized workers rebuilding the other half of our house were using heavy welding equipment connected to our mains. i was lucky my equipment had a protection circuit, otherwise, baka naluto ako!

got six TTs and have fitted three with anti-static mats i bought from Audiophile way back in late '80s. the brand is A+M (European) and price back then was P500 each. it was made of rubber but with synthetic felt lining and has strobo print on inner ring. De Guzman's oldtimers would know these products well.

Had a similar problem with my Yamaha 200 watter amp. which was connected to a 500 watt AVR. Everytime I turned on the unit, the fuse on the AVR gave way. The amp only had a 300 watt power requirement (stated at the back of the unit ) so I thought there was something wrong with the amp but when I read the manual it stated that the power requirement was 600 watts. I then got a 1000 watt AVR and problem was solved. The cause of your amp tripping might be an inadequate power supply.

i don't like my present turntable mat, where can i buy a good rubber turntable mat? the first thing a battle DJ would do is to remove that rubber mat. replaced by a felt lined paper mat with wax coating on the other side. then sandwich a wax coated cellopane (spelling???) mat. ;D

need some help pls :
recently noticed some deterioration with the sound coming from my TT-Phonostage-HeadPhoneAmp setup. when I plug in another source to the HeadPhoneAmp ok naman ang tunog. Tried playing a familiar LP and it does not sound as good as I remember it.
my questions: how do you troubleshoot if problem is coming from TT or PhonoStage if you don't have another service or test unit ? how long is the average lifespan of a needle/cart? can repeated playing of not-so-clean vinyl significantly shorten the life of the needle/cart ?
thanks in advance

sir, check the condition of your stylus (needle), baka kailangan lang ng linis. the cartridge, or phono stage, is not likely to get damaged on normal use. stylus's lifespan depends on correct setting and length of use. in the '80s, inaabot ng taon bago ako magpalit ng stylus and each of my TTs plays an average of 2 hours daily.
BTW, Audiobuds was here in Davao last month and he shared to me hifi adventures you guys have, there in HK. nakaka-inggit. i miss HK a lot as well as our office on Wyndham St., Central, just above Lan Kwai Fong.

thanks for the reply. finally gave in and purchased the ZeroDust cleaner. so far so good ... OT. i'm glad our office is far from Wanchai and Lan Kwai Fong .... sa LPs napupunta ang extra cash ... hindi sa kung ano-ano I hope matuloy ang project namin sa isang Davao hospital para mabisita ang iyong collection.
