SS preamp + tube ampifier
- will it work? - what are the considerations? - why isn't this combo popular?

This was covered by Audio Karma in several threads two years ago since there were some who were happy with SS preamp/valve amp combination. The majority, however, felt the warmth sound of tubes could be achieved more on a tube-preamp (low signal) and solid-state power amp combination, aside from cost efficiency factors, i.e., SS power amp is less expensive to produce and less humming problem.
I've been searching for the AK threads that debated on this subject but can't find it now. I remember having a conversatin with an oldtimer Chinese trader in Cagayan de Oro on this topic also two years ago and he prefers SS preamp/valve amp hybrid compared with valve preamp/SS amp combination. The technicians here should be able to provide better empirical support to each side of the issue.
