I had this problem before on how to put a ground on my Yaden AVR... i live in a condo and all the power sockets here are 3-prong type with existing ground.
My power cord is 3-prong but the Yaden is not, even its plug is two-flat type....my Panther extension cord sockets are 3-prong but the plug 2-flat type again. geez...
I learned from the net that grounding the tube amp will have a substantial improvement in sound. Last friday, i had the opportunity to jam with Stereophile and saw his Yaden grounded with easy steps to follow and really cheap. So, i bought all the parts at Ace Hardware in Mega Mall, spent about P213.00 only.
You need an adaptor like this for your 3-prong power cord na nakalabas yung ground.
Connector for the ground wires.
connect the wire on the ground of the adaptor using the connector and wrap it with a rubber tape, hide the ground wire under the AVR, though Stereophile placed in on top of the AVR, it's your preference.
Now, using another connector, connect the ground wire from the adaptor to the ground tap at the back of the Yaden and place another ground wire with a connector from the ground tap to the existing power cord of the Yaden (though you may want to upgrade also the existing cord to gauge 14 or bigger.... im ok with the existing) then loop the ground wire around the existing power cord up to the plug.
Then, cut the existing plug of the Yaden and replace it with a 3-prong type and connect your ground wire to your new 3-prong plug.
I also put a ground wire on my extension cord and replaced its existing plug with 3-prong...wrapped the ground wire tapped on the chassis of the extension cord around the existing power cord up the 3-prong plug. So, everything now is grounded, from tube amp to Yaden AVR to extension cord to wall socket.
Result? Nah! i won't touch on the improvements on sound as it is subjective. Let's put it this way... im using a VDH interconnect... after this tweak...im using now a Puresonic IC from Phasetron at P180 for a pair! ;D
Happy tweaking!!!
