When not in use, I do. I only lower and lock when I have to move the ttable. The reason I do not lock/lower the tonearm lifter when not in use, is that just in case the tonearm gets bumped, even if it swings in towards the platter, the raised tonearm lifter prevents the tonearm from dropping down and damaging your stylus/cantilever. Recently a friend(who lowers the lifter when not in use)bumped his tonearm while putting back his custom made acrylic cover. His tonearm moved, hit the side of the platter. On inspection, the cantilever of his Dynavector 10x5 was bent to one side. He tried to straighten it. It snapped! I mounted a bnew Denon DL103R for him a couple of days ago. He is smiling again. Do you do the same as I do?

Yup, I leave the lifter on its UP position for safety.

Yo Fritz! Good to see you posting again! Welcome back! Thanks for affirming what I think is the SAFEST way (in addition to putting the stylus guard on) of protecting your cantilever/stylus.
