just a few minutes ago, a guy from Ormoc - not a member of this forum - emailed me saying he's expecting to get a Sony TA-4650 VFET from his cousin who has that unit but has not been using it. i know Lordfoo has two VFETs, but who knows, there are probably others who own rare amplifiers driven by this technology (never shared to the Americans and the Europeans). the known VFET models produced in the '70s are as follows: 1. Sony - TA4650, TA5650, TA8650, TAN5550, TAN8550, TAF7B, TAN7B, TAN88B 2. Yamaha - B1, B2, B3 3. Victor - JMS7 4. Sansui - BA1000 if you own those units, you would be the envy of American and European hifi collectors. prices of these used gear, good working condition, could go up to four figures, in US dollars, (even five figures) in the near term. perhaps we should have a VFET register here in Pinoy Audio so we can have a dedicated thread for Filipino VFET owners. all we need is the brand, the model number, and the serial number of the unit. additional background info and photo would be appreciated. 1. Sandawa: Yamaha B3 power amplifier, 70wpc, bridged tied load-type - Serial No. 03705. - this unit came out in late '70s originally retailed only in Japan for 200,000 yen. current average auction price in Japan is about 40,000 yen. (in comparison, regular amps at over 100wpc sold at surplus shops at the pier are quoted at roughly 10,000 yen in Japan's Yahoo auction.)
