To all AE fans, just would like to share with you a cut of the latest review of AE's Evo 3 from the July '04 edition of What Hi-Fi? magazine as follows:
" In spite of, or perhaps because of, the EVO3s forming the front left and right channels of Acoustic Energy's 3B multichannel speaker package (which has been our Award-winner for the last two years), we never tire of hearing them. It's always a pleasure, in fact, and this test throws their considerable talents into sharp relief.
They're reasonably discreet, beautifully assembled and deceptively weighty. The finish is as good as anything elest at the price, from the chunky speaker binding posts to the rounded cabinet edges and, with the grilles removed, the triangular driver arrangement is mysteriously alluring. And then there's the sound. Biwired (to extract that last scrap of information), they provide an insightful, full-bodied listen that's remorselessly, realistic and above all, musical. . . .
Acoustic Energy did a fine job with the Evo 3s in the first place and obviously, if they ain't broke then they don't need fixing. Our most trivial of gripes aside, the Evo 3s are forgiving, musical speakers that'll sit happily a the end of many a disparate system and go a long way towards revealing the best of it. They demand an audition"
FOR: Painstakingly assembled; convincing soundstage; impeccably musical
AGAINST: Really on the tedium of their being constantly recommended
VERDICT - With remarkable musicality high on an embarrassingly long list of talents, these are must-hear loudspeakers
RATING - 5 stars (out of a max. of 5 stars) {end of quote}
The above article is part of a group test for loudspeakers with prices ranging from L250 to L450. Other speakers which were part of the group test were Dali Concept 6 (3 stars), Focal-JMlab Chorus 714s (5 stars), Monitor Audio Bronze B4 (4 stars), Mordaunt-Short MS 914 (5 stars), and Wharfedale Pacific Evo 20 (4 stars).
FYI, the Group Test winner was Focal-JMlab CHorus 714s and here's a cut of the summary - "MS 914s are a real bargain, and, providing they're well-matched, are highly recommended. However, they're not the best speakers here; and nor are the Aegis Evo3s from Acoustic Energy - class-leaders for an age, but no longer. The standard has been raised by the Focal-JMlab Chorus 714s. The French manufacturer has produced speakers of remarkable musicality, which are extremely forgiving of partnering and room position, as well as being rigorously constructed and with fabulous sound. They're an excellent buy."
Of course, I'm still an AE fan. Question ko lang is, are these speakers (Focal JMlab Chorus) available locally?
