hi, my dvd player is this cheap generic one that cost p2500. It has multi channel output as well as digital outputs (coax and optical). When i connect the multi output to a yamaha receiver, there's sound. But when I do it with the coax, no sound.
Checked dvd setup and i dont think i'm doing anything wrong naman.
What am I doing wrong?
Is it the player? Should I dump it?
Thanks

nope, there's nothing wrong with your player.
tryaudio encountered the same predicament using the same brand of receiver as yours. you might want to solicit some help or tips from the guy by sending him a PM. ;D

first - check your dvd player settings. Audio out should be Raw/SPDIFsecond - check your receiver settings, some receivers have to be "told" that the DVD setting gets its signal from the Digital Coax, or Digital Optical input

I got a yamaha rxv450. I read the manual and I didn't read anything about how to tell setup the receiver so that it knows it's getting it from coax. If there's anyone out there with the same receiver, please let me know how you guys set it up. thanks

how do you do that? (sorry really newbie) you mean - how to send a PM? go to the members list by clicking the members button. then look for the member's name whom you want to communicate with. click the name of the user and you'll find a link "Send this member a private message"

Check the DVD player S/PDIF output if turned ON on its OSD menu. SOme players require this option to get any output from the digital out.

thanks for all your help.
I bought an optical cable and tried it there and it works. it may be that the coax i used was defective but since it's working now, ok na ako. salamat
