Yung Dos Guitarras, classic flamenco na may palakpak. I'll give it another listen one of these days, before I start packing all my gears. For current (New) Flamenco CDs, Ottmar Liebert always comes to my mind. I think I have 2 of his CDs, one of them is a "the best of" compilation (Try giving "Turkish Night" a listen, especially the first few seconds ) There's another CD (JVC XRCD) that I like but the name escaped me. Will post it when I see it. Nahimasmasan? After listening the Carol Kidd nakalimutan ko na yung ginastos ko to have her . I have yet to critically listen to the 3 M&Ks (Fatha, For Duke and 3-way mirror), pero sana mapakinggan ko ito before we start packing our things. ;D My wife naman will listen to them after we moved in to our new apartment and properly set up my listening area. She wants to find out too if the LPs justifies the cost. (Knowing her ears, I'm sure she will : Cheers. Pare, Parada mo muna yung mga plaka sa bahay, balik ko na lang pag naka-settle ka na.. ;D ;D ;D Mahirap na, baka mabagsakan yan, o di kaya eh mamiss-place... :(sayang naman... ;D

Rony,
Speaking of stringed instruments, here's a good LP/CD to watch out for: THE STRAYAWAY CHILD -Jerry Reed Smith. Jerry is a guitar & dulcimer maker, not a record artist. Anyway, the music played is much more of the celtic sound, not spanish flamenco. There's no foot stomping nor hand clapping, but what you'll get is natural, haunting sound of the dulcimer.
Another LP that I'd recommend for strings is Shakti with John Mclaughlin (Natural Elements and Handful of Beauty). It's basically indian music complete with howls and other nature sounds. When I first heard these LPs, I thought Shakti was using instruments with reverbs and overdubs. It was only when I chanced upon shakti playing their instruments on an indian channel made me realize the natural sound of those instruments produce.
Cheers

Rony Yup, Jerry is a maker of instruments. The reason why he made a recording is just to show how good his musical instruments are. Parang yang si Mark Levinson na gumawa ng sariling record for demo purposes. As far as good recordings are concerned, like you, I have learned, and still learing, a lot from the masters. Meron ka rin na wala ako Di ka lang nagpapahalata

To continue with the R2D4 list: CAROL KIDD (Linn/Aloi Records): Since I moved in to a new apartment and set up my audio system, I kept on playing this album every night. Her voice is simply mesmerizing, not strong and not screeching. The instruments are there, surrounding her, but not overpowering. Her voice located dead center, is crystal clear. Her musicians must be quite happy with her rendition of the songs, you can feel it in the melody. The Piano solo in "Waltz for Debbie" is lovely and romantic. (The pianist must be in love ) I think this is one album which, when played, should be with someone you love BTW, Carol Kidd (her voice, that is) reminded me of Billie Holiday singing "God Bless the Child " in her early years, as well as Mishka Adams interpretation of "God Bless the Child" now More to come

Beethoven's Appassionata: Ikuyo Kamiya Pianist using the Bosendorfer Imperial Some of the readers of this thread may find this review repetitive as this was already described in the Jadis' forum at Wiredstate. But for those who have not, this particular LP is considered to be one of the most revered and sought after LPs for its music and its recording. It was during the Hifi Show when I first heard this LP in the VSA lair. Playing through the TNT-HRX and the BAT- VR4 Sr combo, this LP wowed a lot of guests in the lair, myself included. Those who listened to it were stunned with the natural timbre of the bosendorfer's strings, the way it reverberates while being hammered through the piano keyboard. This particular LP describes the piano as a percussion instrument - not a string instrument - as the strings of the piano are hammered, not plucked. The force of the hammering of the strings can be heard and felt in the recording - letting the listener feel the natural timbre and dynamics of the sound a true bosendorfer imperial. For piano music lovers, Ikuyo Kamiya's rendition of Beethoven's Appassionata No. 23 is something worth listening too. I'm not too sure if a CD of this ever came out, but if it did, better grab it. For me, if you want to show off your system, the LP/Cd must be in your rack. More LPs to come Thanks for reading
