Cheryll Bentyne (from Manhattan Transfer) Let Me Off UptownNot HDCD, not DVD-A, not SACD. But it's sonics are simply gorgeous. Not surprisingly, it's from TELARC. There are a few Telarc CDs out there. The Music of Ivan Lins is another Telarc Title I've tested at Tower but at P715.00 I posposed getting hoping they'd be on sale ;D

TAS 2004: www.m58.net/ProductDetail.asp?Product_Id=533838294#picAlthough a bit pricey at P 1500 at Astroplus Podium, this CD is a great buy as it is a compilation of TAS recommended CDs for 2004. Listen to Chloe's version of Vincent (Starry, Starry Night). I just wished they also featured Chloe's interpretation of Danny Boy (this song was featured in another CD - Celtic Woman) If the russian in track 7 did not make you dance, then there's a problem somewhere

Rony, Since we are in the list of "Records to Die For", here are some of my R2D4 list: Jazz at the Pawnshop - Propone Records, Half Speed Master by JVC (Sweden) Cantate Domino - Proprius Records, Half-Speed Master by JVC LA 4 Just Friends - Direct to Disc Recording Rhythm Devils - Apocalypse Now Sessions - Wilson Audio - This is an earlier recording made by Mickey Hart & Friends which was used for the soundtrack of Apocalypse Now. This is where the "Beast" was first introduced. A year later, they recorded "DAFOS" Prof. Johnson's Spectacular Sound Show - Reference Recording RR-7 The Firebird Suite -(TELARC) - This is TELARC's reference recording for remote recording sessions TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 (TELARC) - Want to see your subs blow up But, between this and the Antal Dorati version for Mercury Living Presence, I like the MLP version the best Sheffield Drum Track Record (Sheffield Labs) Lincoln Mayorga & Distinguished Colleagues Vol. III Direct to Disc (Sheffield Labs SL5/SL6) Waterfall - Sara K. (Stockfisch) - Sara's voice is crystal clear The Raven - Rebecca Pidgeon (Chesky Records) - If you listen attentively, you'll notice that in the CD, the maraccas are located at the back, right center. In the LP, it's on the right channel, front - strange Friends of Carlotta (Clearaudio) - Another crystal clear recording (both this LP the Sara K - Waterfall LP were engineered by Gunter Pauler) More to come. Cheers

Rony, TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 (TELARC) - Want to see your subs blow up But, between this and the Antal Dorati version for Mercury Living Presence, I like the MLP version the best Cheers Is this the Erich Kunzel and the Cincinatti Symphony version recorded in 1990 with authentic Canons? Or the newer Kunzel reading with the Cincinatti Pops on hybrid SACD?

I also have the new recording (1990) of the Kunzel 1812 on CD, which I believe, was already recorded on multi-channel format. Cheers.

LA4 just friends naku maganda talaga yan lalo yun unang isang buong side titled "nouveua bach" Rony, Sinong maniniwala sa 'yo mas marami kang LP na nakatago diyan na wala ako ;D ;D True, talagang nakakapayat ng wallet But I consider them as an investment (for my kids) rather than as an expense due to our hobby Kaya my wife approves of me buying these LPs and CDs. BTW, the ones I listed are only a few of my Audiophile LP collection. I'll try to post the others if I find time. Ang wala sa pa sa akin diyan eh yung apat na M&K real time collectibles at yung Kornet Har Vin Sila LP. Malamang tumigil ako sa pag-collect pag yung limang LPs na iyon nasa akin na (Kasi wala na akong pambili ) BTW, I have yet to touch on my list of CD collectibles Cheers.

Will update the R2D4 list, and provide a few listening impressions as well. Another interesting CD/LP to have. A simple review from Walter Koslovsky It was a historic occasion. The appearance of John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, and Paco DeLucia at San Francisco's Warfield Theatre one Friday night in 1981 was a musical event that could be compared to the Benny Goodman Band's performance at Carnegie Hall in 1938. The Guitar Trio did for the acoustic guitar what Goodman had done for jazz. The acoustic guitar had gone commercial. In 1979 and 1980, McLaughlin and de Lucia had actually toured Europe with Larry Coryell. McLaughlin tried to release a recording of this group but Columbia would have none of it, claiming Coryell was not a big enough name. Coryell had some personal problems at the time that did not help either. (The video Meeting of the Spirits features this version of the Trio, and it also appears on one cut on DeLucia's album Castro Marin ). When the time came to tour America, DiMeola stepped in. His presence suddenly made the Trio commercial. At any rate, Friday Night in San Francisco was the result. FNSF truly caught these players' energy, amazing technique and humor to a generous degree. There is no doubt that McLaughlin is the leader (center channel gives that away), but DiMeola and DeLucia more than hold their own. DiMeola, though one of the world's greatest guitar players, lacks the emotional intensity and overall musicality to match McLaughlin or DeLucia. But the Latin influenced music of the Trio allows him to excel in a genre in which he had long dabbled. Not being a jazz player, DeLucia's improvisational work is understandably weaker than the other two. However, the music is as much in DeLucia's bag as anyones. The concert is full of call and response, unison playing, heavy chords (courtesy of McLaughlin), and audience screams. The album's highlight is McLaughlin's duet with DeLucia on an Egberto Gismonti piece, “Frevo Rasgado”. The beautiful melody and stunning improvisation leads to an absolutely hair-raising finale duel. (Gismonti has recorded a beautiful version of his tune on piano.) The recording's lightest moments occur during a hilarious duet version of Chick Coreas Short Tales of the Black Forest, featuring McLaughin and DiMeola in which the two masters quote back and forth from various sources including Mancinis Pink Panther. All three players finish the event with a studio version of McLaughlins Guardian Angel. Friday Night in San Francisco may be considered the most influential of all live acoustic guitar albums. Though some have criticized it for its muscular tendencies, the recording certainly captures the excitement of the event itself. In a world of electric guitars, it was quite unusual to hear a crowd go absolutely ballistic over acoustic strumming. It is not so unusual today, and this record is one major reason for that.

Rony, Try to find an LP or CD of " Dos Guitarras Flamencas en Stereo" by Philips. It's one of Paco De Lucia's early recordings alongside Ricardo Modrego, in 1965. The youngblood Paco was just starting to gain recognition for being a virtuoso with the guitar. His passion and fire with the guitar chord and the Flamenco, even at an early age, can be easily heard and felt in this record. This is a must-have for those who dig Flamenco and/or latin guitar music. Cheers.

Yung Dos Guitarras, classic flamenco na may palakpak. I'll give it another listen one of these days, before I start packing all my gears. For current (New) Flamenco CDs, Ottmar Liebert always comes to my mind. I think I have 2 of his CDs, one of them is a "the best of" compilation (Try giving "Turkish Night" a listen, especially the first few seconds ) There's another CD (JVC XRCD) that I like but the name escaped me. Will post it when I see it. Nahimasmasan? After listening the Carol Kidd nakalimutan ko na yung ginastos ko to have her . I have yet to critically listen to the 3 M&Ks (Fatha, For Duke and 3-way mirror), pero sana mapakinggan ko ito before we start packing our things. ;D My wife naman will listen to them after we moved in to our new apartment and properly set up my listening area. She wants to find out too if the LPs justifies the cost. (Knowing her ears, I'm sure she will ) Cheers.
