But if you'd be taking them out, you might as well increase their current handling abilities with more powerful tranies, better rectification and regulation. I think that would matter more. Sir avphile, pardon me but being a technical guru, hope you can elaborate why should I increase the current handling and those rectification and regulation since I am just taking it out of the chassis and add a bigger diameter of wires in between the PSU and the amp. thank you sir,

1. bigger tranny = better regulation = less V+ droop 2. better rectification = faster diodes = higher peak-peak voltage 3. better psu regulation = stiffer supply voltage = extended power capability if you do what you're planning to do, and you do what avphile is recommending, add more filter caps while you're at it. add something to master JOJO suggestion also make good filtering. add larger value of capacitor to avoid humming sound and proper grounding ;D ;D

would all this equate to a better sounding cdp?

nobody has mentioned the one tweak you MUST do when you have bi-wirable speakers: Change the brass jumpers connecting the HF & LF plugs I recently did that on my Diamond 8.3's and the highs just opened up resulting in a more balanced sound Try different wires to suit your individual tastes, I'm using a short piece from the same wire I use as power cords (salamat Hans!) ;D

KEF purists may not like this, but i just tweaked/modified my Reference 101 series 2. I was getting tired of its sound, which to me was inferior compared with Epos 14, but I like it a lot because of its original rosewood box. I thought it was only at par with a surplus Diatone DS-a7 I bought at only P3.5K two weeks ago. My rosewood KEF 101/2 was originally priced in early '90s at around 500 British pounds (in the same price category as Epos 14 and LS 3/5a), but got it discounted a few years back from a local shop at P18K.
I started by pulling out the tweeter connectors (UniQ design - located at the middle of the woofer), got a pair of Wharf Modus Vivendi (i have 4 of these speakers for my 10-year old HT setup) which has adjustable/rotating tweeters, and mounted them at the top of the boxes, ala KEF XQ One. My only worry was drilling a hole on top of the box for the tweeter connector but found out the speakers had some excess synthetic clay inside, which i used to plug the holes with after i slipped the tweeter connectors out.
The result is significantly better, in looks and sound, compared with the original KEF 101 design. I know there should be matching, with respect to crossover frequency, for the drivers, but then, I simply ignored that variable considering I'm hearing a significant improvement. I have played so far Simon Preston's Old English Organ Music (Archiv), Carol Kidd's I'm Glad We Met (Linn), Dave Grusin's Cinemagic (GRP) and bootleg live performances of Florante in San Francisco.

nag-kaka interes ulit akong mag buting-ting dahil sa inyo. nung '80s dami kung sinira sa kalikot, ang mahal pa naman ng gears nuon. at least ngayon mura na (surplus - except for the KEF mahal pa rin sa akin yun) and if anything goes wrong, meron pang "online consultants."

Hahaha! I can still remember our 70's Fisher Receiver which has a turntable on top, I tried tinkering it's motor to incorporate a pitch control then (I was in grade 6 ) but to my Dad's surprise, the darn motor gave up on me! ;D ;D ;D ;D Ganyan daw talaga ang audio, very entertaining. ;D

D'Agostino, when he was a young kid, repaired his dad's old radio by using Christmas lights as substitute to a rare resistor that got busted. ("Krell" was D'Agostino's favorite comics about a planet of that name and its superior inhabitants:"You fools, nobody on Earth could ever approximate the intelligence of anyone from Krell.") Carver's feat was assembling a 400-watt amp in a small milk can when he was in high school. then, there's the classic Steve Wozniak garage story on how he created the Apple computer with his classmate Steve Jobs. the great salesman, Jobs, eventually got the credit for it!
