Saw a WHITE Nextbase NB-656 (latest model) for sale in Western Marketing Festival. It stood out amongst the rest becoz of its color. It is also compact, much smaller than the usual models and has MPEG4. It was being sold for P3995.
Here comes the salesman saying that though he is not pitching for it , the Xenon, he shows me this model (I forget the model number) which has more capabilities /formats than the nextbase at P300 less. He was touting it being able to handle DVix(?) and & 7.1 which the nextbase did not have. He also said that Xenon is the lower end of Pioneer, and that it can be serviced by Pioneer.
I told him that Nextbase also has a service center. All you have to do is just return it to the dealer where you got it from. Looking at the Xenon, I wasn't too impressed with the fit n finish of the product. The NB-656 looked better in white(honestly, i think Ferrari Red would have been better). One cool item is the clear see-thru blue tray you mount the dvd on.
So what do you think of this salesman's spiel?

a lot of people at Pinoydvd are happy with the Nextbase 656, and it also plays DivX so the salesman was pitching BS ;D that Xenon had an advantage

but i saw some Extreme dvd players at Nintendo in Festival mall (lowest level) that were selling for P 1,995 supposedly good players as well - so it would depend on what your application would be

I decided to get the NB-656. Cool. I owned a NB-757 w/c I eventually gave to my parents. They needed a player w/c read 'certain media'. There was a problem with the display read-out w/c the service warranty covered. I returned it to Anson's in Pasay road. Service was prompt. They replaced the LCD display. Had no problems since. There was never a problem of it reading media. The NB-757 was impresive for me. I liked its size. Then came the NB-656... I've been trying out the new player. It runs cool, despite it size. I like its compactness. It fits nicely into the small nook remaining in my rack. The remote needs some getting used to. I miss the menu button of the previous remote. It loads very fast. It's fast forward is something else. I'm very happy with the unit. Thx, guys.
