nakita ko na rin yan sa 1981 Stereo Review directory. tama ka Foo, PL630 was TOTL ng Pioneer line at that time at $450. i think you got a good deck there. you don't need the cover, considering from your posts, you're more into performance instead of looks. lagyan mo na lang ng cloth cover kung kailangan, puwede na. kasi, nuong araw na uso pa yung glass covered racks (i still have one), talagang tinatanggal ang cover ng TTs - tinatago na lang, kung minsan nawawala tuloy. i think i still have original Pioneer headshells dito sa akin. hintay ka, i'll be there mid-January.

Finally, my brother handed me a Sansui SC50 cartridge which fitted my Pioneer PL630.
The cartridge is not in a very good condition with at least 1 small screw missing an another screw replaced with a non-matching screw. The stylus looked okay though.
I connected the SC50 to the PL630 to a Pioneer SX1250 and it sounded brassy and one channel seemed not to work.
However, i realized the sx1250 is still being repaired and i haven't tested its phono stage.
I shifted to my old Pioneer SX1080 which i knew worked with the Dual 505.2.
And voila!!! The pioneer Rocked!!! In fact, it rocked extremely well. Highs, Mids and lows were very clear. (the pops were also very clear. ) I've been listening to it since early this morning. (almost 5 hours)
The PL630 definitely out matches the Dual 505.2 and the Marantz 2200 that i've used. This unit is definitely a keeper.
Now all i gotta do is find a very good cartridge.

I got me a PL516 intact with original Pioneer shell and busted needle. Only one channel was working when i plugged it in. I hope its just the RCA cable.

could be the cable, but oftentimes, the old cartridge (or one of the four tiny connectors) is the culprit. or the contact points in the tonearm, which the 4 pins of the headshell touch, need cleaning. also, tighten the screw that holds the headshell to the tonearm.

I failed to mention that i pulled out the Sansui cartridge working now with my pioneer PL630 and plugged it into the PL 516. Therefore I am rulling out the shell and needle as the culprit. (This hobby is bad... Less than a month and i already have 4 turntables Pioneer Pl630, PL516, Dual 505.2, Marantz TT2200 and a Sony PS333 with a broken arm. I should be more discriminate in getting TTs).

the logical thing to do is to use a continuity tester to find the break in the connection from the cartridge terminal (running through the fine wire inside the tonearm assembly) to the RCA that leads to the amp.

others probably know a source there in Manila, all i could think of now is Raon. if only i could get hold of that stylus, i'd look for a replacement from my source here in Davao, which still stocks hundreds of spares for Japanese cartridges for as low as P250 each. otherwise the better option is to buy a new cartridge, or order from a UK source online at 18 British pounds each, which would come up to at least P2.5K including shipping charges.

Thanks for the quick reply Master sandawa... do you know any website link that offers different stylus replacement for different types of stylus? So that I can review the replacements and tell it to my officemate.. Thanks again..
