I've recently acquired a pair of HPM100 pioneer speaker. One woofer needs cone replacement. This model has generated a lot of controversies over the the AK with a one or two threads being closed by the moderators after heated arguments between pro HPM100 and antiHPM100 audio enthusiasts. I hope i will be able to restore the damaged woofer.

Hi sir Dana.
I've been looking for this pioneer model for a long time so I couldnt really resist the pair despite the damage to the cone and the dimple on the tweeter. The enclosurer are intact though. After some sanding, i've eliminated majority of the scratches. I have tested the working unit and it is indeed a kick ass speaker. Fantastic Bass and highs. I can't wait to have the other unit repaired so that I can appreciate the bruhaha at the AK over this model.

The reconed HPM100. These speakers match my preferences to a T.

Congrats Sir Foo...its singing again. Must be good....listening impressions? I noticed that the M surround edge was preserved or is this part of the new cone material? Also, naka polyurethane finish na yata ang woods ...what did u use sir? Pa share naman, where u got this reconed and the repair cost. Thanks!

Hi Sir Dana,
Listening Impressions.
Thanks. Yes I like the HPM100. My younger brod though says its too bright for him. He turned the bass control higher to make them compensate for the powerful mids and highs.
Me? My older ears found the low mids and high just right. For a while i found the bass slighly weak. After several days usage, the bass is much stronger now. Or maybe my ears have just gotten used to the speaker output.
But boy these are very powerful speakers - not really neighbor friendly.
YEs the surround edge was also replaced but its not part of the cone material.
Nope. No varnish or polyurethane. I just scraped the original varnish, sandpapered and then oiled the cabinets.
My brod brought the drivers to a store in Raon. I forgot the store name. Maybe later i will post it. Cost is about 600 per driver. We bought our own cone material but the tech brought out their own material which he claimed is more matched to the HPM100. My brod made sure the lead tech made the replacements and not his assistants.
All in all the HPM100 is my kind of speaker.

My highschool daughter hooked up her laptop to the Heathkit AA1515/HPM100/KLH6/sony CDPES 303/Dual505.2/Luxman tuner setup i recently installed in our 2nd floor Sala.
Then she played some newer rap music on her windows media player.
I've never done this with all my other speakers for fear of damaging the old drivers. The HPM100 has just been reconed so i figured what the heck ... let her rock.
Whoa!!! the HPM100 kicked ass!!!!
p.s. my daughter told me she used to do this with the Cerwin Vega D9 at the Terrace set up. Now i realize why I had to have the D9 woofers repaired recently.

Another post script.
I recently asked our Driver which of my speakers he liked most...
hahah you guessed it, he pointed at the HPM100. And he was picking from amongst a double stacked advents, Cerwin vega D9, NS1000m and AR90 among others.
eniwey he hasnt really heard the 15 incher Cerwin Vega D9 in a closed room. The D9 is in a semi - open terrace so the bass frequences just pour out the woofer and just goes straight to the neighbors without bouncing back. But i suspect that the D9 with the 15 inch woofers and the larger (though flimsier cabinet) can produce more "rap" friendly bass.
