I use bookshelfs for the surround channel of my HT set-up. Now I use a pair for my audio set up. I like the sound of bookshelfs, clean and soft on the ears. What i notice with bookshelf is they image better than Floorstander ( but some floorstander naman image like bookshelf ) and if you plan to place it in a small to medium size room it provide more balance sound.. syempre for large room floorstander naman. ;D

my first ever bookshelves were the B&W 303, second hand. with these babies i started to hear the difference. medyo nakiliti na tenga ko. meron pa ba? then came the Mordaunt-Short 912 classic series, brand new. ummmm, those aluminum drivers..ganda na, ganda pa rin tumunog. getting clearer. love those sets . more? last (i still have them)but not the least. the Athena S3 (used as one of the reference speakers of WIDESCREEN magazine). canadian made, large bookshelf. more than 2 ft high, 3 way with 8" bass driver. second hand din with free stands .lalong gumanda. separation, sound stage, deep bass. maybe i'll keep them for a while. ;D

familiar stories. in my case, sinipa na ako ni misis sa master's bedroom dahil sa increasing stocks of audio equipment. so, i moved to another room and surrounded myself with speakers and electronics (mostly surplus).
since last year, the strategy was to distribute the gears to other rooms. then, to another house. i was comparing notes with an audio enthusiast friend here in davao and we have the same experience and strategy. if we don't disperse those junks, hindi na kami puwedeng bumili (gulpi na ang aabutin!)
btw, in my experience, mid- to large-size bookshelfs could mimic or even beat floorstanders when used with good powerful amps. i usually ignore the maximum amp power recommended by bookshelf speaker manufacturers. but then again, apply it at your own risk.

guys, i was able to borrow a Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 and it sounds very good with a Technics turntable w/ Shure M55E cartridge plus a borrowed AMX 6V6 push-pull tube amp.
the sound is similar to the Diamond 8.1 but with a bit more bass weight & extension; the highs are also laid back but probably more detailed than the 8.1... thats from memory only, it may be because of the analog/tube setup, the M55 is a bright & detailed cart so its probably a good match for the 9.1.
if you've been listening to a speaker with metal tweeters the tamed highs will be very obvious right away, but after listening for a while the sound starts to form a character of its own..... it reminds me of my old AE Aegis One, vocals and piano are amazing.
it integrates well with my sub, too.... low bass appears to be coming from the speakers..... as a standalone speaker it does a good job, in fact on many tracks its better than both my MS and Usher bookshelfs.
but i still need to confirm my initial findings.... let's use this on the next session a.k.a. affordable cartridge session

oo master, ang expectation ko eh matatalo ito ng MS-902 dahil ang private shootout ko ng MS-902 vs. Usher S520 ay so far panalo ang MS-902.
pero was surprised with the result.... musical nga itong Diamond 9.1 on the warm side naisip ko tuloy kaya pala ito nanalo ng loudspeaker of the year.
just so people wont have unrealistic expectations, the highs are laid back but if matched well it doesnt matter; the overall sound is what matters and it is 2 thumbs up for me.
