Started buying surplus speakers when my brother in law asked me to accompany him to the sites mentioned by sir sandawa in an article. From my one and only yamaha ns-690III which i purchased new about 20 years ago from Yupangco to my present 8 pairs. I now have a pioneer hpm-100 and s55twin, victor sx-f3, celestion sl6si , yamaha ns690II and 650 and my personal favorite the polk sda crs+. I have not regretted any of my purchases since these units are really value for money. How can one go wrong on branded japanese, american and british speakers costing from P1,500 to P5,000. The polks had a minor scratchy sound in two of the drivers and since i liked the sound of these speakers I decided to replace the 4 drivers and two tweeters. I ordered these new replacements from Polk audio for about $300.00 I guess there is still a big demand for these 20 year old speakers for polk to have replacement drivers. My polks: [ ] [ ] Pioneer s55twin [ ] victor sx-f3 [ ] celestion sl6si [ ]

Sir Diego,
Your have a fantastic speaker collection sir!!!
I have the victor sx3and the NS690 and like them a lot. How do you find them compared with the pioneer twin? I once passed up the chance to acquire a pair at the pier. A decision i rue to this day.
I have no experience yet with Polk Speakers but i've seen good reviews of these speakers.
Thanks for sharing pics of your speakers sir Diego.

foo, THanks. The NS 690 II and III are better than the S55twin. Deeper bass and better defined mids and tweets. Can't find fault in it. For small rooms the S55 are also good speakers nice mids and highs but the most important factor is wife won't complain because it looks nice. Will match any interior of a room. Bass is not lacking maybe due to the two ports at the back . I passed up a pair of sx-3 a few months ago due to some driver problems. Will keep my eyes open for a pair.

here are some more pics : Pioneer HPM-100 Pioneer pirated JBL chief engineer Bart Locanthi from JBL to design the HPM series. Pioneer wanted to duplicate if not better the legendary Locanthi designed JBL L100. Though rated at only 80 watts, it handled my 160 watt kenwood with ease. According to some posts at audio karma, this speaker can handle whatever you throw at it. reviews: www.audioreview.com/cat/speakers/floorstanding-speakers/Pioneer/PRD_120402_1594crx.aspx#reviewsPresently driven by a Kenwood KA 1100SD amp , Victor XLZ 505 K2 CD player Yamaha 690II driven by an Onkyo Integra A-919 120 watt/ch amp

I just bought this unit this morning at MSM. The brand is Realistic, custom manufactured in Japan for Radio Shack. I'm not really sure how old the unit is but i just decided to get it after total inspection of the drivers and auditioning the unit. I was impressed at how the unit delivered the music that was being played by the salesman. I requested for something with the low frequency, and that music he played made me decide to buy the unit. I checked all the units that were for sale at the shop, and this was the only one with the best physical appearance and the drivers were all intact and was never repaired. For 2,500 pesos, i guess anyone would have grabbed the unit. I was just lucky to be there at 9:00 in the morning, right after they've opened their gates. ;D ;D ;D Pinagpahinga ko muna ang aking Maggies at eto muna ang ginagamit ko. The unit is quite heavy and it has 2 tweeters per channel. Can anyone share any information about these speakers? For now, i'll just sit back and enjoy them.

If you have the model number, it's likely I'll find info about it. That's the beauty of letting the ears, instead of the eyes, decide in this hobby. For that price, you have a winner.
My last purchase that impressed me a lot was a pair of defective Aurex (Toshiba) @ P2K a couple of months back. After I had them repaired -- replacement of two woofer voice coils -- I was awed by its sound quality. It easily beats the KEF Ref. 101/2 and Mordaunt Short 3.40 and almost comparable with Epos 14. Yet, its current resale price in Japan was from $50 - $70 per pair. Then there was this Sony APM-33W that no one wanted at an importer's warehouse here due to rotten square woofer surrounds. Got the pair at P1K, had it repaired for P600 and when I got it back, it sounded much like its $800 brand new price.
The bottom line is you'll never know what you'll find on those mountains of junks. And that's what makes vintage hifi hunting extremely exciting.

Can't find specs of the Nova series. The original Nova 8 is a two-speaker system, but I understand it has variants. There's also Nova 7 and 9, also issued in mid 70s but no photos and specs, only pricing. the other Novas were issued in the '80s, no longer with wooden grills. If you're hot on its specs, maybe the Audio Karma guys know. there are scans here of vintage Novas and Optimus, with the same lattice grill as your pair: audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=77801Maganda yung grill nyan, I still have to own one like that. I saw a Sansui SP-2600 here in an appliance shop used as demo speaker with a beautiful wooden grill similar to that. Unfortunately, the shopowner isn't selling even after I offered P5K for the pair.

Congrats Dong! Napakagaling mo naman mag-hunting ng mga vintage gear. First the Garrard turntable and now this! ;D Btw, is the MSM you're referring to the other MSM, not the one in Cubao?

Hi Sir Dong, Ikaw pala nakakuha nyan ha! ;D ;D ;D; Mike was telling me that somebody just got the Realistic speaker ...alam mo naman si Mike, he is everywhere...actually, Mike already owns a pair, parang pareho kayo ng model. I even referred him that model dahil walang pumapansin nun tsaka no money at that time, not knowing na ang ganda nga.Ako nga nagulat at nagsisi eh... So, the next tym na may lumabas ulit, nakakuha rin ako, pero ung 6 inch version na at medyo may tama pa ung cabinet. When I got home, hinanap ko ung una naming National Panasonic Receiver na matagal ng retired sa bodega at paired it with...So, ung kakambal nyan, meron rin si mike (ung woofer nga nyan ay parang may concentric sand particle sa cone for tuning or counterwight purpose cguro, very unique nga e...younger brother ung sa kin.tamang tama sa next EB natin yan... ;D ;D Congrats.... Yes, very old fashioned yung grill cover nya, vintage na vintage...Congrats.

dong, kinis pa ah i love those covers with the wood slats. they dont make those covers anymore. great catch ;D Thanks Obet. Those wood slats are not actually wood but plastic. Sandawa, Thanks for the link. I'll check it out when i have the time sir. Southpeak, I've already tried it out with a "verve". I have plenty of those.. ;D Thanks. Mandrake, Nagkataon lang na nag-hatid ako sa Miriam. I went to Raffy first to get the records i reserved, then went straight to Cubao. ;D Sarado pa sila ng mga 8:30, so i had breakfast first sa McDonald's, then i went back to see if they're open already. Sabay tawad ng US$ 2,500.00... ;D ;D ;D ( 2,500 pesos pala ) Sa madaling salita, ako ang buwena-mano nilang benta nung sabado... ;D ;D ;D Salamat bro.
