JD Labs Phonology Phono Preamp Finally, I got my turn to demo this project which I initially heard about a month ago at the Akyatbundok GHQ. I was impressed then and I was even mesmerized the first time I hooked it in my system upon playing Holy Cole’s Don’t Smoke In Bed album! It’s like having a premium cart in a Technics Direct Drive turntable where details are oozing with so much abundance. I then played my Crystal Gale collection and it was awesome indeed… hearing the shrilling voice of Ms. Gayle singing right in front of me! My current phono preamp is a QED Disc Saver and it simply pales in comparison to this “killer phono preamp”. I used to listen to my LPs at the 12 o’clock to 1 o’clock volume dial in my int-amp but with this killer phonostage, I can listen comfortably and still enjoying so much details at 10 o’clock to 11 o’clock volume dial position. It takes my listening pleasure to the next level and because its power supply is isolated from the main chassis, unwanted noise was minimized if not negligibly existent. This would equate to a cleaner sound with no annoyance from the AC power source which, by the way, was coupled by a power cord or cable to the transformer. I tried playing my good ole rock and roll albums and the same story… I was elated more upon hearing greater dynamics and high frequency extension which was a bit rolled off in my current phono preamp. This killer phonostage gave me a warm and dynamic welcome to the world of pure analog supremacy with a superb sonic improvement from my current phonostage. I can now hear extended high frequencies, more defined bass and more spatial resolution in stereophonic experience. I might modestly say that this is even better than the built-in phono preamps that I’ve I heard so far at the GHQ… from Jetok’s Basie Preamp, kimpao’s AMX preamp, akyat’s Contodo preamp or what have you… simply because their power supply are all integrated or very near the sensitive circuitry of a phonostage while this one has an isolated power supply incorporated away from the main chassis housing the phonoamplification circuitry. The only drawback I would like to mention is the fact that it also amplified the crackles and the ticks and pops of my older LPs which in my current phono preamp was not much of a bothersome experience. The mere fact that this is a solid state phono preamp doesn’t bother me at all coz those phono preamps I mentioned above were all tube equipped but as far as I’m concerned, they’re only as good as they’re being called as such! I can even bet my *ass* that pitting the Clearaudio Basic Phonostage to the Phonology would be a mismatch in favor of the latter. Performance-wise, this is a good if not a run away victor and price-wise, this is will trash away the competition. This is a great buy and for its price, you can make the tube heads drool on this one!

natry mo na ba sa setup mo yung mga preamps na namention mo? no need to try them on my system pre... i had a chance to hear them all at Akyat's GHQ and my comparison was based on what i heard at the GHQ using the same turntable and speakers. and insofar as i'm concerned, i'm much more pleased with the sound of the Phonology compared to the three phono preamps mentioned above. what i heard from my system using the Phonology phono preamp is just a confirmation of what i've previously appreciated as a much more superior phonostage. try it yourself and you might be amazed how a budget priced phonostage will shame most of the branded or tube gears we have here!

had the chance to go for a 2nd round with this - i have to say, angat talaga sonics nito: deeper bass with slam, and separation of instruments - with more refined vocals (all these comments are made vs my own phonostage)
;D
Doc Birthday Boy - arbor na lang ito! ;D
