nice to read someone here also owns a small British-made Diamond. i have a Diamond 4 (early '90s) which i still use as back up pair. i also had the slightly bigger (but a lot smaller to new Diamond series) Diamond Ritz with built in amp back in early '90s. someone saw it and bought it at 50% higher than purchase price in 1991 i think.

hi sir sandawa. from what i've read, english-made wharfedales (and all wharfedales for that matter) are very well built.
my only beef with the pair i have is that they seem to need an amp with more juice in it to maximize the bookshelf's potential.
am considering a GC. your thoughts would be highly appreciated.
cheers!

yes, it needs power, but not too much. from 50 to 100 wpc RMS at 8 ohms would be good enough. sensitivity of the British Diamond i think is about 87dB, so mid to high. i have hooked it to my high-powered amps (over 160 wpc @ 8 ohms) but i'm not satisfied with the result.
i could mount at least 8 audio setups in my current audio collection (6 setups now active) but the best match for it is a Tono tube preamp and a Yamaha B3 100wpc monoblock. it performs well on music types with a lot of midrange.

mine's rated at 86 and driven by a HK SS, it seems wanting. sure it can play, but it can't sing.
you've got quite a lot of audio stuff there.
thanks for the input.

got 10 pairs of speakers, 7 pairs are bookshelfs, 4 pairs were bought surplus (2 US and 2 Japanese).
two of the 8 setups lang ang binili ko ng bago, the rest puro used/surplus na.
bottom line? in my case, mas masaya maging kuripot!

i'm comparatively private, with respect to my audio collection, pero kung ikaw, open ang bahay ko kasi siguro ipapa-check ko yung loob/quality ng mga equipment ko. if you have the opportunity to visit Davao tell me, i have a 40% discount transferable privelege on rooms and food at Marco Polo Hotel.
btw, the matched pair now for Tono is the newly modified Dai-chi floorstander, back up na lang yung Diamond 4. but you should hear how my KEF Reference 101 S2 sounds on Denon PRA-2000 and Yamaha M4 (class A - 40wpc) combination. now i think i understand why Denon shifted to solid state after initially producing PRA-2000 for their tube-based power amp.

yup ok naman, pero yun unit na nahiram ko medyo bago pa, parang kulang pa sa break-in..... actually i expected more for the price, but it could just be that it needed more break-in..... i suggest you audition more in this price range because there is a lot of competition in the 20k++ range.
