Remember the old Shakeys crowd, pagpasok ng isang grupo parang magkakapatid, ang ingay.
Reminds me of old buddies John Lennon and Harry Nilsson (Everybody's Talkin', Without You, etc.) pag nalasing, silang dalawa ang nagbabasagan ng mukha. ;D

yeah mandrake you're right, this thread opened the floodgates parang backtothefuture60s70s. nani, ewan but pinoy concert audience- walang katoria-toria, bato! kasi maraming espiya na nanonood. ewan kung nasa Blood Sweat and Tears concert kas sa Araneta nuon, galing ng grupo tumutugtug ng lasing. lahat ng nasa taas pinababa tapos yung malapit sa stage binigyan ng mga bote ng San Miguel. Pero yung concert in Clapton sa Araneta, bato. Dami daw parak naghahanap ng nag-dadamo. ERIC CLAPTON Is this the Clapton concert where four people died at the gate crush/Stampede? I like clapton best when he's doing blues. CAROLE KING. The Song Tapestry is my favourite... (reciting from memory..) My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hues... an everlasting vision, of the ever changing view, A wondrous woven magic, of bits of blue and gold. a tapestry to feel and see, impossible to hold, Once amid the soft silver sadness in the sky, There came a man of fortune, a drifter passing by, He wore a torn and tattered cloth, around his leathered hide, And a coat of many colors, yellow green on either side. AY NAKALIMUTAN KO NA. I have to google the rest... here goes. He moved with some uncertainty As if he didn't know Just what he was there for Or where he ought to go. Once he reached for something Golden hanging from a tree And his hand came down emp-ty. Soon within my tapestry, Along the rutted road, He sat down on a river rock And turned into a toad. It seemed that he had fallen Into someone's wicked spell And I wept to see him suffer, Though I didn't know him well. As I watched in sorrow, There suddenly appeared A figure gray and ghostly Beneath a flowing beard. In times of deepest darkness I've seen him dressed in black. Now my tapestry's unraveling; He's come to take me back. He's come to take me back.

ako rin in the absence of songhits at jingle mags panay ang google for lyrics. kakatawa mali-mali lyrics ko pag crosscheck with the songs' real lyrics
shakeys new frontier, ali mall & uniwide were good hangouts to hear the local bands but sarungbanggi with those "imported bands" from gapo was one of the best.
nani, oo nga that time di pa uso yung away dahil masamang tinginan ng mga nag-iinuman sa shakeys. meron nag-gigirian sa pagporma sa mga maganda serbidora ;D

Exodus Artist: Andy Williams Music written for 1960 film "Exodus" by Ernest Gold, who won an Oscar for the score. Words added in 1961 by Pat "White Bucks" Boone as "This Land Is Mine." Various versions charted in 1961 by Ferrante and Teicher (#2); Mantovani (#31); Eddie Harris (jazz rendition, #36); Pat Boone (#64); and Edith Piaf (#116) From the Movie "The Exodus" Performed by Andy Williams This land is mine God gave this land to me This brave and ancient land to me And when the morning sun Reveals her hills and plains Then I see a land Where children can run free So take my hand And walk this land with me A nd walk this lovely land with me *Tho'I am just a man When you are by my side With the help of God I know I can be strong (Repeat *) To make this land our home If I must fight, I'll fight To make this land our own Until I die, this land is mine

I call that passion, not hobby.
I remember reading about her in early '80s doing drugs and sex with Chris Stein in the powder room even as the rest of the band was already playing intro riffs in their concerts. That woman was so hot in her younger years.
SOUTHPEAK:
When I was a fresh graduate trainee, I had the chance to interview Student Canteen's hosts. Connie was really suplada, but Bobby and Eddie were okay. I think Bobby is gone now, but Eddie and Connie, are still around.
I don't know about Barameda but I remember another guy who for a long time was Student Canteen quiz champion: Butch Maniego who became a PBA/MBA anlayst.

Could be in the later part of Jingle, I hardly saw his byline. There's another guy with the surname Lorenzo who also became a quiz champion (the guy who beat Butch Maniego). He could be over 50 now, I wonder if he's the same (William?) Lorenzo who was the secretary of Science and Technology a few years back.
I'm sure the gang still remembers the group Badfinger. A favorite of the Beatles, signed by Apple, and once touted as the Beatles' successor when it disbanded in late '60s. The group is led by an extraordinary songwriter named Peter Ham. Actually, the group failed all expectations primarily due to bad management, and Ham committed suicide as a result. Badfinger played backup to George Harrison in "Concert for Bangladesh", and George traded guitar licks with Ham in one of the group's hits, "Day after Day." Paul McCartney even gave them a song -- "Come and Get It."
Badfinger had about half a dozen Top 10 hits on both sides of the Atlantic, the biggest, however, was a song titled "Without You" which was not a hit when the group released it in 1970 but became a monster when covered by Harry Nilsson in 1971, and revived by Mariah Carey in 1993. The song hit number 1 on the last two occassions, but the original single by the group didn't even go near the top 100.
We've heard this refrain a million times:
"I cant live If living is without you I cant live I cant give anymore."

Speaking of Jingle Magazine, i remember that they used to have good record reviews. An album could merit a "bangaw" or some five angels. The reviewers insightful take on a material plus their command of the language awed me. I wonder where Eric Gamalinda, Ces Rodriguez, Edwin Pena Sallan are now. I think Eric Caruncho is with PDI. Not sure. OK siguro to go through some back issues. Reminds me of the good ole days.

Yes, i almost forgot those angel rating. Eric Gamalinda as I've mentioned previously is in New York writing for a magazine there but the last time I got feedback was probably 8 years ago. Ces is free-lance I think, Eric Caruncho is with Inquirer and Juaniyo Arcellana is with Philippine Star.
Don't know if you've read my previous post. T. Tinio was my name in Napster in 1997 or '98? After some Pinoys complained, I changed my name to T. GasTT.

I've been a subscriber of emusic.com since last year, from the starter plan to the current $15/month package, and seemed to have run out of materials to download. The site is into old music and mostly unknowns.
I checked an entry that I have ignored, Miles' Davis "Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet" and found the album available for download was the re-mastered one. I sampled and it sounded great. From the initial tune "If I were A Bell," the sound was clean.
Take note that album was recorded in 1956! With John Coltrane on sax backing Miles' trumpet.

There's Juan dela Cruz' HIMIG natin and Asin's Masdan mo ang Kapaligiran. Likewise, coritha's Sierra Madre and Freddie's Anak.

I wonder what happened to that band. There's also a group formed by Pepe Smith in QC jail and when he got out, parang naging inactive. I recall a news item two years ago tumutugtug na naman daw. My favorite version of "My Way" was that of Sex Pistols starring Johnny Rotten, Sid Vicious ang that English train robber.
A week ago I treated my visiting brother and my family to nearby Paradise Island Resort (ang cheap!). There's a string quartet -- complete with acoustic bass -- playing for customers there that really sings oldies nicely. Perfect English, good choice of songs, kopyang kopya sa original, at mga tisoy pa. Pero nasira sila when they finally sung that Tagalog classic, "No Touch."
"Did na did talaga ako, sa mga pakimbut-kimbut mo."
I got embarassed when my brother burst into laughter when he heard that. They were singing behind us while we were eating. Para hindi magalit, I pulled out a P500 bill as tip for their performance.

If I leave here tomorrow Would you still remember me? For I must be travelling on, now, cause theres too many places Ive got to see. But, if I stayed here with you, girl, Things just couldnt be the same. cause Im as free as a bird now, And this bird you can not change. Lord knows, I cant change.
Bye, bye, its been a sweet love. Though this feeling I cant change. But please dont take it badly, cause lord knows Im to blame. But, if I stayed here with you girl, Things just couldnt be the same. Cause Im as free as a bird now, And this bird youll never change. And this bird you can not change. Lord knows, I cant change. Lord help me, I cant change.
