ok sir ice, thanks so much for the advice.
oh btw, even before i added the GC to the chain, i already noticed the sibilance on some recordings (particularly the swingout sister lp). so i guess that eliminates the gc from the equation already. is that a safe assumption?\
thanks

Sibilance maybe cause by LP & not align cart/stylus pwede din yun sinabi ni KOya Ice you can reduce it by cable and Interconnect. ;D
Btw how the sound compare to HK lang?

di po silver, cat 5 utp na naka braid. try replacing it with other IC, what speaker cable you're using? How is the sound when using your GC?

If it were "Better To Travel" yes there is sibilance in this lp whether it be local or imptd pressing for the their other albums none. Was only able to tame it to tolerable levels, how? By changing my cart and properly setting up my table. another factor is you may really never know if it was sung or even recorded in that way. but the best way to tame such occurances is to change your cart. www.wiredstate.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4281&highlight=sibilanceyou may want to read thread in the other forum as to appreciate what sibilance is.

even without the GC in the chain, one of the first things i noticed was the sibilance in the sos lp while the other lps had none. i tried comparing the tracks to the sos "live at the jazz cafe" cd (although i admit it isn't exactly an apples to apples comparison). the sos lp in question is a self-titled album (contains a mix of hits from 'it's better to travel' and 'kaleidoscope world') and is a local pressing. i have another sos album coming in by the next week so maybe i can make another comparison. i'll try to fiddle with the table settings this weekend...or try a new set of cables...or get a new cart. thanks for the input guys!

a couple of things i had to re-do over the weekend; - removed and re-connected the shure cart to the technics headshell (cleaned the contact points for the headshell leads also) - readjusted horizontal balance, anti-skating, etc - thoroughly cleaned the sos lp - played the album using the hk and the gc sibilant pa rin! played linda ronstadt's heart like a wheel lp and joan baez; 's' were short and sweet. no hissing whatsoever. ma-'s' talaga yung sos
