Guys,
If you plan to venture into tubes what will be your first choice? Vintage, DIY, New production or Local tube amps?
When i started with tube my first amp was a Vintage Scott 222a integrated amp uses EL84 tube and 12watts. ;D ;D

DIY agad sir, as this is like hitting two birds in one stone, yong tunog na gusto mo at a price you can dictate. but i do hope to own at least one vintage one day, pogi kasi vintage amp e, lalo pag collectors item na tlaga.

Agree iba talaga pag custom made to your preference unlike yun RTU ( ready to use ;D ;D ) na some are tweak to suit your needs pa extra gastos.

Tube amp good for beginners???
I suppose ang sgot dyan is SET, it's simple, easy to maintain, and a lot cheaper. But you will say, "eh ang hina naman, 3-8 watts lang."
actually the problem is not the amp, it's our speakers. those days na hindi pa tayo tao, halos 100+ dB ang mga sensitivity ng speakers, yun nga lang 2W na SET mabibingi ka na. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

SET, at least 94dB up. PP, 88dB is enough depending on the power of amp. What is the minimum db sensitivity when using a PP and SET amps?

solusyon dyan mga sir, maghanap ng lumang speaker sa pier for your set amps, hehehe. hirap lang kasi ng mga speakers sa supermarket burado na rin yong sensitivity (minsan wala pangf nakalagay tlga) rating and the wattage. notice ko nga din, most speakers now a days are rated at lower than 89db, specially the more affordable ones. my isa pa palang choice, DIY speakers o mag pa DIY ka.

Let's keep our fingers crossed ;D well it depends dun sa listener kung ano type nyang pakinggan pero usually pag nakarinig na ng tube amp... hooked na ;D Quote from Master Andrew.. The chassis and metal works are now underway. I think baka matapos sa punch and press by first week of Feb. Dami kasi holiday, dont want to pay overtime, baka lumagpas sa budget. Anyway the circuits are done, and is now playing in my home in atemporary chassis. I am happy with the outcome, to think na wala akong ginamit na "boutique" parts. All standard but good quality. Pwede pala yon. Anyway you can always install the expensive caps, its your ear and its your money. But as for now I am happy with the sound using the mini version of the contodo preamp, that is no cd input buffer and no phono stage. Keeping you posted. Malapit na. Hintay ko na lang ang tubes, dito na, hold pa nang customs, need to get ICC, bagong rule bigla, nasunog kasi yong bahay sa dasma, lahat ng electrical and electronic products kailangan daw ng ICC (Import Commodity Clearance.)

Tube amp for beginners? I suggest before you venture with this kind of system, you need to familiarize with it. The following are my tips: - Attend listening session - Check your preference PP or SET - Ask members of this thread who want to upgrade & buy his system (recommended) Especially if you are familiar with his system.
Mura na, may after sales support ka pa!
BTW, DIY is no room for beginners for tube investment! IMHO
