I've always wondered what the best vintage JBL speakers are. Also has JBL anything to do with Altec Lansing speakers?
Can any one post comments on the vintage JBL speakers?

No, it's not a good JBL model ;D. It's a cheapo . Where did you see it? Do you have the phone number? quite unlikely it is in mint condition considering the JBL Century was released in the '70s. also the matrix foam grill disintegrates (under tropical condition) only after a couple of years. if it's in good condition and you'd pass on it, i may consider.

joey, you're correct about L-100, very good for rock and acoustic music -- folk or jazz. hot-sounding but not too bright, borders between west coast and Japanese sound, kaya gustong gusto ng mga Hapon. they pay as much as $5,000 for original mint units although quoted price when released in '71 was roughly $900/pair. this 45-year old still sells in US eBay at roughly $600. i had an L-100, better than my EV as per info transmitted by my ears, but the pair was soaked in rainwater in our second year here in Davao. both boxes were deformed and the cones almost damaged. during transport when we transferred here in '97, one speaker turned over inside the container van resulting in voice coil "sayad". this also cracked the front chassis of my Technics SL-1200. the L-100's drivers were eventually given last year to my friend here involved in mobile audio business. mine had the bluish matrix grill

Finally, I got my very own vintage JBL. Last weekend, i found an odd looking JBL (to me since I am not familiar with the JBL models.) Its not the JBL monitor i've been looking around for.
It had this clear glass or plastic inside the tweeter. And the control dials in front stated, presence and brilliance instead of the usual tone control. The speaker looks squat and is not tall at all. On top is a plate of smoked glass. Patungan yata ng Beer.
With timely advice from Sir Sandawa, (and a brod of mine) i went ahead and acquired the unit based on initial impression alone and the friendly advice.
I was flabbergasted when I went home and checked out the model on the net. I realized that the L65, Jubal unit i just acquired is a prized vintage JBL. Hooked up to a Vfet amp, the loudspeaker belches out sound that recreates what I remember of 70's rock music.
Is any one familiar with this model?

yes, sir bongiscool, its the same unit. I was in the same situation as you were, however, I sent a text message to one of the Gurus here and was basically advised to go ahead and get the unit, an L65 Jubal. Otherwise, i would also have left the unit until i have googled info on it. You would have gone back and taken it and i would have gone back later and just cursed my luck. It is indeed in need of some woodwork. Likewise, after i have listened to the pair for several days, i realized one of the woofers was not giving out enough bass. I suspect that it is need of some recapping. I will have it recapped next week. I've discovered that the tweeters alone of the L65 commands a very very high price. cgi.ebay.com/JBL-077-High-Frequency-Tweeters-x2-L-65-Jubal-Speakers_W0QQitemZ130154694308QQihZ003QQcategoryZ14993QQcmdZViewItemIn fact, a lot of sellers in ebay are opting to part out their jubals because they are able to get a much higher price when the unit is parted out as compared to selling the whole unit. buy now prices of 500 usd and above for the tweeters alone is somewhat mind boggling.

No luck yet with the L100 or the 43xx series. Instead i've acquired an FL100 and an L50.

L166 Horizon - Uses updated version of L65's Mid and Low drivers to accommodate their new tweeter(066). I'm using one right now.My dad bought it in HongKong 34 years ago.
